What is the best way to get to your studio?

Our photography studio is located on Queen Victoria Street just off of Queens Road in Central.

If you are coming from Central it is a very easy walk. From the bottom of the Mid-levels escalator where the Holly Brown booth is, you can take the small escalator down to Queens Road and cross the street to Queen Victoria Street. Our building entrance is about 3 stores down on the right, just past the kickboxing gym. We are on the 6th floor of 15 Queen Victoria Street in Unit 602.

If you are taking a taxi, tell your driver Central, Queen Victoria Street (域多利皇后街) and you should be set (Queen Victoria Street is a one way street and only two blocks long). You’ll want to get off at the top of the street at the intersection of Queens Road Central. If all else fails, you can get off at The Center which is a 2-block walk.

There is a car park in the nearby Man Yee Building – the entrance is on Pottinger Street.

How long is each session?

Most sessions are 30 or 60 minutes.

What should I wear?

Men: Standard business look is a suit jacket, dress shirt and tie. Casual business can include a jacket and open dress shirt, a shirt and tie without jacket, or a dress shirt on it’s own. For a casual look without jacket, colored shirts work better – white dress shirt by itself is usually a bad idea unless it is underneath a jacket or sweater. Generally, clothes that are comfortable, fit well, and are neatly pressed always look great. Avoid busy patterns and large lines/stripes. Colored accents (like a tie or pocket square) can help add color or even complement colored eyes.

Women: Generally have a little bit more flexibility – standard business look is a jacket and a collared or collarless shirt/blouse. An open neckline can be quite flattering. Plain colors work well – blue, green, wine and purple are universally nice. Avoid big prints, busy patterns and large lines/stripes. For a casual look without jacket, colored shirts work better – white dress shirt by itself is usually a bad idea unless it is underneath a jacket or sweater. Generally, clothes that are comfortable, fit well, and are neatly pressed always look great. Keep jewelry small and simple – or it may distract from your face.

What do you shoot in a session?

In every session we shoot a variation of “sides”, angles and expressions before you and the photographer carefully select the images that you look best in on our iMac.

Do you provide makeup? Should I get makeup?

If requested our makeup artist can provide makeup in our studio or on-location immediately before the photo session.

Makeup will almost always improve how you look on camera – thats why models, actors and TV personalities always have makeup before shooting! That being said, for a corporate headshot you have a little bit more leeway and ultimately it is up to you. Small acne or other blemishes are easily removed in retouching – so if a new pimple decides to pop up for your headshot session, no worries. For women in particular, if you are proficient in applying your own makeup, then a professional makeup artist may not be necessary. However, the opposite applies if you are particularly awful at applying your own makeup!

About 1 in 10 of our male clients and about 1 in 5 of our female clients have makeup professionally done before their headshot session.

Can you change the background in photoshop?

There is a reason why actors and models travel all over the world to photoshoot ad campaigns in front of the perfect backdrop – and that is because a photoshopped background almost never looks as good as shooting in front of the real thing. We recommend letting us know ahead of time what type of background you need if you have specific requirements.
